Idaho Secretary of State: RCV will cost up to $40 million.

Idaho’s Secretary of State, Phil McGrane, issued an advisory to the Idaho legislature this week with several warning about the Ranked Choice Voting ballot initiative. In summary:

It would likely cost at least $25M to $40M dollars to replace the existing equipment throughout the state.

Current election software vendors in Idaho cannot currently tabulate RCV ballots and certifying a company can be an enormous undertaking.

It will take longer to produce initial election results

The fiscal impact statement of the RCV ballot initiative is broad and vague.
